Tire Slashing as Expression

According to news reports, on the night of January 14, 2013, tires were slashed on 14 vehicles in the Portland neighborhood near SE 30th & Franklin.  People living in the area thought they had seen ”two people, each about 5-foot-7, wearing dark clothing.” The question we have, is just how effective random tire slashing might be as an expression of contempt for the bourgeois? Living in that particular SE neighborhood, exist people who use their cars (and by extension – the tires on them) to pick up over-flowing buttloads of donated books from drop sites all around Metro.  The books are then wrapped by volunteers, loaded into cars again, and mailed free of charge to prisoners.  Some people around there use cars for delivering materials to anarchist events.  Oh, you know the sort of thing;  boxes of crap we need for writing to prisoners, tables, chairs, can’o-peas, black hoodies and instruction manuals for ‘Build Your Own Incendiary Contraption; A Guide.’  There are even anarchists with cars that are sometimes forced by necessity to be in NE Portland; from whence issues word of the tire slashings referred to in the article at bottom. (Appropriately below cob.)  We can’t all ride bikes all the time!  Bikes don’t work for people that have to pick up and deliver 2500 fuckin-odd pounds of heavy books.  Anarchists can’t all live in squats, either, damn the luck.  Some of us have to hang in bougie-looking neighborhoods, or stay with others who live there.  So, to summarize:  By slashing the tires we can’t afford to replace, you are effectively saying that you don’t want us to undertake any prisoner solidarity work.  You don’t want us taking clothes and food to others in our mutual aid network.  It’s good with you if anarchist events fall casualty to your need  to express yourself. You can’t abide the thought of us getting supplies to our comrades holding the line in the forest; hell – let them wipe their piney-scented arse on a corn cob. Using a vehicle to help poor people move after an eviction gets your blood boiling, but maybe not as much as the thought of us going out to assist the really pathetic ones – those losers who just lost everything they owned in a fire and are left to stand there in the middle of the night just staring at the embers.  Anarchists do all these things but not after someone removes the only means they had for doing them.  Actions on behalf of comrades are good but so is devoting at least a moron’s-worth of thought to it first, and then screwing with something that makes sense.

From:  Anarchist News  Portland: slashed tires on yuppie cars for Kerry and Kiki

Fri, 01/11/2013 – 04:02 |  Anonymous

Tonight the tires were slashed on 6 yuppie cars in northeast Portland. All that was needed for this small expression of complicity was a sharp knife, a bike for a quick getaway, and plenty of rage (which seems to be in abundant supply lately).

Solidarity with Kiki (Sergey) Turzhanskiy, who supposedly threw a molotov cocktail at a cop car and was just released from jail on terms of not talking to other anarchists; and Kerry Cunneen and all others throwing a wrench into the gears of the Seattle grand jury.

Eat shit, yuppie scum!
