Portland ABC supports POW’s, political and politicized prisoners both nationally and internationally. Oppression knows no boundaries. It is well documented the US habitually intervenes in the affairs of other nations to suppress popular movements and to protect the interests of the capitalist elite.
This chapter of ABC maintains an expansive outlook on the type of prisoners we should support. The legal system exploits our human tendency to band together and uses it to imprison us. The definition of a “gang,” used by the Department of Justice and the Department of Homeland Security’s Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE), is very broad and does not necessarily include criminal activity: “an association of 3 or more individuals, whose members collectively identify themselves by adopting a group identity….” Almost any group of individuals then, who fall outside of the scope of the privileged and their aspirations can become fodder for prosecution. Criminal charges cloaked in terms such as “associating,” “with intent,” and “conspiracy,” have made it possible to arrest people merely on the basis of an acquaintance. Prison is an industry.
